Strategy
Frontline Cartographer
★★★★☆ 4.4
Frontline Cartographer asks you to expand across a hex map while managing supply lines that stretch thinner the further you push. It's deliberate, almost chess-like, and it punishes you for grabbing land you can't actually hold. We lost our first three campaigns and enjoyed every collapse.
The interface is clean enough to read on a phone, which is no small feat for a strategy game. You can pinch to zoom, and the turn summaries make it easy to see what the opponent did while you weren't looking. There's a decent asynchronous multiplayer mode too, so you can play a turn and come back hours later.
It's not a game for people who want constant action. But if you like staring at a map and plotting three moves ahead, it's quietly excellent.
What we liked
- Readable UI on a small screen
- Meaningful supply-line decisions
- Solid asynchronous multiplayer
