Ember of Vael
Ember of Vael is a proper role-playing game that respects your time, which is rarer than it sounds. You build a party of four, work through a branching campaign, and fight in a clean turn-based system where positioning matters as much as raw stats. The writing has real personality — characters bicker, change their minds, and occasionally refuse to do what you planned.
Combat is where it shines. Each class has a short, readable kit, so you're thinking tactically from the first hour instead of drowning in menus. Enemies telegraph their big moves, and the game rewards you for reading the board rather than grinding. Boss fights in particular pushed us to rebuild our party more than once.
The upgrade systems are generous without being mindless. You earn materials at a steady clip, and there's no energy timer choking your progress. If you want a campaign you can sink real evenings into, this one holds up.
